Privacy Policy

Mometra ("we", "us", "our") is a personal finance tracking app for iOS. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, with whom we share it, and your rights as a user.
1. Data We Collect
Account Information
- Email address
- Display name
- Firebase user identifier (UID)
Financial Data
Stored in your personal Firestore account space:
- Transactions, income and expense records
- Budgets and spending limits
- Savings goals and funding progress
- Investments and PAC (automatic investment) plans
- Net worth snapshots and portfolio records
- Trips and travel expenses
- Custom categories
Receipt and Document Data
- Receipt images processed for text extraction
- Extracted amounts, merchants, dates, and categories
- Imported document text (e.g., bank statements)
Voice and Speech Data
- Microphone input captured only when you explicitly trigger voice recording
- Audio is transcribed locally (via Apple's Speech framework) to create transactions or send messages to the AI assistant
- Mometra does not store raw audio recordings
AI Feature Data (only if you opt in — see Section 3)
When you enable AI features, the following data may be sent to Google Gemini:
- Transaction descriptions and signed amounts (for categorization)
- Receipt OCR text (when you scan a receipt)
- Your chat messages to the AI Coach
- Spending summaries and financial context used to generate personalized advice
This data is never sent unless you explicitly enable AI features in the onboarding flow or in Settings.
Challenge and Social Data
- Challenge participation, entries, scores, display name
- Progress visible to other challenge participants
App Preferences
- Currency, language, appearance, enabled modules
- Privacy mode, app lock, and AI data sharing preferences
- Notification settings
- Onboarding and setup state (stored in UserDefaults)
2. How We Use Your Data
We use your data solely to provide the app's features:
- Sync your financial data across your devices via Firebase
- Show budgets, goals, investments, net worth, and spending views
- Process receipts, documents, and voice commands
- Provide AI-assisted categorization, budget suggestions, and financial coaching (only with your explicit consent — see Section 3)
- Authenticate your account and send verification or reset emails
- Send local push notifications for budget alerts, goal reminders, and spending anomalies
- Power the home screen widget with your current financial summary
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the app.
3. AI Features and Third-Party Data Sharing
What AI features do
Mometra includes optional AI-powered features (AI Financial Coach, smart transaction categorization, receipt analysis, budget advisor, voice transaction capture). These features are powered by the Google Gemini API.
Your explicit consent is required
AI features are disabled by default. During onboarding (step 9), Mometra asks for your permission before any data is sent to Google Gemini. You can also enable or disable this at any time in Settings → Preferences → AI Data Sharing.
If you decline, all AI features are unavailable and no financial data is ever sent to Google or any external AI service.
What data is sent to Google Gemini
When AI features are enabled, the following data may be transmitted to Google LLC via the Gemini API:

This data is sent solely to generate a response and is not used by Mometra for any other purpose.
Google as data recipient
The Gemini API is operated by Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. By enabling AI features, you agree that the data described above is processed by Google in accordance with their terms and privacy policy.
Google's use of data received via the Gemini API is governed by:
- Google Privacy Policy: policies.google.com/privacy
- Google Gemini API Terms of Service: ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms
Google provides equivalent or greater privacy protection for data transmitted via the Gemini API as required by applicable law.
Mometra's own servers
Mometra does not store your AI chat conversations or any Gemini-processed data on its own servers. The Gemini API call is made directly from your device (or via a stateless proxy that forwards the request and returns the response without retaining any content).

5. Data Linked to Your Account
All financial data, preferences, and challenge records are stored under your Firebase UID and are linked to your account.
App preferences stored in UserDefaults remain on-device only and are not synced to any server.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data.
Data is shared with third-party services listed in Sections 3 and 4 only to the extent necessary to provide app functionality:
- Google Gemini API — only when you have explicitly consented to AI data sharing, and only for the data types listed in Section 3
- Firebase — to store and authenticate your account data
- No data is shared with advertisers, analytics platforms, or data brokers
7. Data Security
- All Firestore data is protected by Firebase Authentication — only you can read or write your data
- Data in transit uses TLS encryption
- You can enable Face ID / Touch ID app lock in Settings for an additional layer of device protection
- We recommend using a strong account password and enabling email verification
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the data stored in your account (visible directly in the app)
- Delete your account and associated data at any time via Settings → Delete Account
- Export your transaction data as CSV via Settings → Export Data
- Correct any data by editing records within the app
- Withdraw AI consent at any time via Settings → Preferences → AI Data Sharing (disabling this stops all future data from being sent to Google Gemini)
Deleting your account removes your Firebase Auth account and all user-owned data from Firestore. Some shared challenge records may retain non-personal aggregate state needed by remaining participants, but your participant document and entries are deleted.
9. Data Retention
Your data is retained while your account is active. When you delete your account, Mometra deletes all known user-owned data from Firestore.
Backups and logs managed by Firebase may follow Google's own retention policies. Raw audio input is never stored beyond the duration of a recording session. AI chat messages are not stored by Mometra after the response is returned.
10. Children
Mometra is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
11. Financial Disclaimer
Mometra provides personal finance tracking tools and AI-assisted informational insights for educational purposes only. It does not provide certified financial, tax, legal, or investment advice. Always consult a qualified professional for financial decisions.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
